Moms, Meerkat, and Video: Weekly Roundup: Social Media Round Up

Our weekly roundups corral the news you can use.

One of the best things about brands trying to create viral campaigns is that in the attempt to pull on our heartstrings, they sometimes, really do something pretty special.

This week, thanks to Huggies, we saw a blind mom “see” the ultrasound of her unborn baby.

On of the most frustrating things about social media trends and innovation is how quickly technology BFFs can break-up with each other. Such was the case when Twitter decided that Meerkat should no longer be allowed to play on the platform alongside Periscope.

“You get this call and they say ‘hey, we really like the product but… by the rules you cannot use the graph in a competitive way and we just launched Periscope in a beta and we’re going to close it’.”

So Meerkat ran into the open arms of Facebook. I think Meerkat is going to be ok.screen-shot-2015-05-08-at-1-37-04-pm-150x150

Facebook is also trying to spread more love among their community by testing ways to allow us to choose what we want to see more of. Maybe you really do know what you want to see on Facebook better than their algorithms…maybe.

The TechCrunch Disrupt Conference was this week and one of the big stories to come out was the Reddit is getting into the Video game.

With video everywhere, you may be on camera right now.

Say “hi mom!”
